Veterans Day offers a great opportunity to teach civilians about the year-round sacrifices made by service members and their families. November 11th is the day set aside each year to honor those who have served and continue to serve our nation.
We invite you to tune in to DCN on November 11th at 8 PM for the premiere of "The American Veteran PTS Awareness Special." The special will feature testimonials, bring awareness to the effects of Post Traumatic Stress, and the vast resources that are available to veterans through the District Government.
We are pleased to announce the Comcast and RCN franchise renewal agreements was presented for DC Council approval to the Committee on Business and Economic Development. With the support of Mayor Muriel Bowser, Chairman Kenyan McDuffie, Comcast and RCN, we will continue serving our District's residents!
In the spirit of serving our District Residents, we are excited to bring new content to our District Knowledge Network (DKN). The new season of DKN Sports with host Keith Jones will feature exclusive in-depth reporting and provide insight into what it really means to be "Inside DKN Sports!" Be on the lookout for new episodes starting in November every Friday at 8 PM on DKN.

In order to ensure that all of our veterans are getting the information and support they need, Mayor Muriel Bowser, the DC Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs and the DC Entertainment Office have partnered with KMC Empowerment, LLC to present the inaugural “American Veterans PTS Awareness Special” to be aired on Veterans Day November 11, 2018 at 8 PM on DCN. The special will also re-air November 12, 2018 at 8 PM on DCN. The American Veterans PTS Special focuses on all aspects of Post-Traumatic Stress; including vital information from experts, veteran testimonials, effective treatment and resources available now, and in the future.
The DC Entertainment Office salutes all Veterans who have made sacrifices to protect and serve our country! There's nothing more exciting than celebrating our very own OCTFME family members. Mabel Gist served in the Army and for the past 15 years she has worked as the District government's first and only cable inspector. Mabel responds to resident's concerns regarding the maintenance of cable wires in the District and ensures that all cable customers are well taken care of in an expeditious manner. Thank you for your service and everything you do for our agency!
We salute all veterans and the families of veterans. Here at the DC Entertainment Office, we are family, and we'd like to also thank DC Radio's General Manger Maxx Myrick for his service in the United States Marine Corps. Maxx has built a career of establishing great radio brands and successfully launching radio stations in major markets like New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Cincinnati and Washington DC. Because of Maxx Myrick's hard work and dedication, DC Radio 96.3HD4 has become one of the most prominent radio stations in the District. Thank you for your service and everything you do for our agency!
Co-founder of Black Entertainment Television (BET) and Co-owner of the WNBA Washington Mystics, Sheila C. Johnson, finds her way back to her old stomping grounds! The DC Entertainment Office operates in the same building that BET launched its first network. BET operated from this location from 1989 to 2002. With her many accomplishments, Sheila's ingenuity has propelled her into becoming one of the most successful black women in entertainment. She has also contributed to underserved communities, notably through gifts to organizations including the United Negro College Fund, Parsons School of Design, and Howard University. The DC Entertainment Office sends a special thank you to Sheila C. Johnson for everything she continues to do to help elevate the District's creative economy.
OCTFME Director Angie Gates, and Georgetown University announced the first ever DC Music Census which will get underway the first quarter of 2019. The DC Music Census will be the first of its kind for the District and will map the music economy here in DC in order to better understand the local music community and help the city and community make more informed, data-driven decisions to grow the music ecosystem.

The DC Entertainment Office is pleased to recognize Kristin Adair as our November 2018 Filmmaker of the Month. Kristin is a Washingtonian who launched Unchained Media Collective in collaboration with Halim Flowers, a writer and activist from Washington, DC, who is serving a life sentence he received at the age of 16. As one of the inaugural 2017-2018 art and social impact fellows at Halcyon Arts Lab in the District Kristin amplifies the voices of those who the system of mass incarceration renders invisible. Be sure to check out Kristin's upcoming documentary film entitled "Becoming Free."
The DC Entertainment Office is pleased to recognize the Entertainment and Sports Arena (ESA) as our November 2018 Location of the Month. While it is true that this venue will serve as the new home court for the WNBA Washington Mystics and NBA G League Team, Capital City Go-Go – as well as the official practice facility for the NBA Washington Wizards, the estimated 118,000-square foot, 4,200-seat facility will also be a year-round destination within the city for residents and visitors alike! The venue will establish a premier entertainment destination within Ward 8 that will open doors to more diverse programming options and video filming in the District of Columbia. It will also attract cultural and community-based events, giving residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy the rich diversity of DC in a brand-new space.

November's Filmmaker of the Month, Kristin Adair’s film "Becoming Free"
follows three young people who have served years or decades behind bars
during the critical transition from youth to adulthood. In Washington, DC, these aspiring small business owners are seeking to break the cycle of poverty, violence and incarceration through community and entrepreneurship. The premiere screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring returning citizen entrepreneurs, local policymakers, advocates, and experts from the Georgetown University community.
